Medicare certification requires surveys from Medicare every three years. All Medicare certified hospices are required to send the same survey to the family of the deceased to evaluate the care provided. Care Compare takes the survey responses grouping them into two overall ratings and six categories that include: “Communication,” “Timely Help,” “Emotional/Spiritual Support,” “Training,” “Respect,” “Would rate this hospice 9 or 10” and “Would recommend this hospice.” Every quarter these scores are updated and available to the public on Care Compare Hospice, which can be found at https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/?providerType=Hospice. The data are for a two-year average.
Mt. Hood Hospice is currently #1 for ALL categories and BOTH overall satisfaction questions. We have consistently had more #1 scores quarterly on care compare than any other hospice in the greater Portland area since at least February 2019.
Mt. Hood Hospice has also been named a 2021 CAHPS Honors elite recipient by HEALTHCAREfirst. This prestigious annual review recognizes agencies that continuously provide the highest level of quality care as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. It acknowledges the highest performing agencies by analyzing the performance of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) hospice survey satisfaction measures.
Award recipients were identified by evaluating performance on a set of 24 quality indicator measures. Performance scores were aggregated from all completed surveys and were compared on a question-by-question basis to a National Performance Score calculated from all hospices contained in the HEALTHCAREfirst’s Hospice CAHPS database.
Hospice Honors recipients include those hospices scoring above the HEALTHCAREfirst National Performance Score on 20 of the evaluated questions. HEALTHCAREfirst holds a special recognition, Hospice Honors Elite, to honor hospices scoring above the HEALTHCAREfirst National Performance Score on all 24 of the evaluated questions.
