As part of the “We Honor Veterans” program we are proud to honor our veteran patients and all those who served. Over 30% of Mt. Hood Hospice patients are veterans and our compassionate staff are educated in their unique needs.
Tuesday, March 29 is “National Vietnam Veterans Day” and is the hero’s welcome they never received. This day is dedicated to service members for their sense of duty, devotion, courage and great sacrifice. Long overdue, now it is our duty to offer Vietnam veterans a proper welcome home.
For the first time this year we partnered with The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration and received commemorative Vietnam lapel pins to present to each veteran and their spouse.
It is a privilege to be part of the pinning ceremonies to recognize and thank those who served in the US military during the Vietnam War, including those who were wounded, gave their lives, or went missing. They are emotional, beautiful and well-deserved after so many years and I cry every time.
Other ways you can celebrate are to display the US flag every March 29. If you know any Vietnam Veterans make sure to take time to talk to them and acknowledge this special day. Write them a card, make them a welcome home sign, offer them a coffee or attend one of many events in your area.
We are grateful to be able to serve our veteran patients and will continue to educate staff and volunteers on veteran-centric care. Taking the tools we learn, our organization will be able to help guide veterans to a more peaceful ending.
