Volunteer Opportunities
Patient / Family Volunteers
Patient / Family Volunteers provide both practical and emotional support to hospice patients and their family members. Activities often include home visits, regular phone calls, respite care to the caregiver, or even running errands. Volunteers are specially screened and trained. They come from all walks of life; many of them have suffered the loss of a loved one making them especially compassionate to the needs of others. A 21-hour training program is required.
Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers
Are you a veteran? We are proud partners of the We Honor Veterans program in conjunction with the NHPCO and the DVA. This program offers a tiered approach of education and outreach to our staff, volunteers and the community. If you are a veteran and would like to volunteer with veteran patients and help with recognition events we would love to hear from you!
Pet Peace of Mind Volunteers
Do you have experience with animals? We are grateful to partner with the national Pet Peace of Mind Program, based in Salem, Oregon. Volunteers help support critically ill patients and their pets, which allows them to be able to keep their pets during their end-of-life. Help walk or feed pets, change the litter box, take pets to the groomers or vet appointments. Are a veterinarian looking for a to help your community? Mt. Hood Hospice is always looking for vets to partner with. Give us a call.
Office Volunteers
Office Volunteers help with tasks such as answering phones, preparing mailings, filing, scrap-booking, or other tasks depending on the skills of the volunteer and hospice needs. One-on-one training and orientation is required.
Special Event & Fundraising Volunteers
Special Event Volunteers help plan and staff special activities such as our annual Time of Remembering or promoting hospice at a fair or event (booth). Mt. Hood Hospice is a non-profit organization that cares for patients regardless of their ability to pay. Fundraising is one way to help keep our indigent fund, Pet Peace of Mind and We Honor Veterans funds strong and allow us to continue serving our community.

About Mt. Hood Hospice
Mt. Hood Hospice has been providing care and bereavement support to families in Multnomah and Clackamas Counties for 43 years. We are a not-for-profit, free standing, independent, community-based hospice.
Mt. Hood Hospice was the first free-standing hospice in Oregon to be granted Medicare certification in 1987. Since that time we have stayed current in compliance with changing CMS regulations while remaining true to our original ideal: to provide the highest quality care to families coping with life-limiting illness, emphasizing comfort, dignity and choice.
MT. HOOD HOSPICE CELEBRATES 43 YEARS!
We are a not-for-profit Hospice that provides quality care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones,
regardless of their ability to pay.
Living with a Terminal Illness
When a loved one is diagnosed with a terminal illness, the lives of those close to them are impacted as well. It's important to learn as much as you can about the illness. The more information you have, the more in control you will feel. Learn more.
What You Need to Know
Hospice care is covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance. You can choose your hospice! Every Medicare beneficiary with Part A entitlement has a Medicare Hospice Benefit allowing them services from ANY Medicare certified hospice. This is regardless of their enrollment in any HMO. We care for people in residential facilities as well as at home. Learn more.
