About Us
Mt. Hood Hospice was created out of loving concern for those in the final stages of life.
Who We Are
Our experienced staff provide the support and assistance that patients and their loved ones need to allow them to live the remaining days of their lives on their own terms, with dignity and respect. Hospice care is more than a job to us, it’s our passion. Supporting you with comfort and care during this difficult time is our goal.
The Hospice philosophy was summed up by Dame Cicely Saunders (founder of the modern day hospice in London, England) who said to patients:
“You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can, not only to help you die peacefully, but to live until you die.”
Mt. Hood Hospice History
Macy Brader and Patricia Spradling were the founders of Mt. Hood Hospice. It was their concept and hard work that created Mt. Hood Hospice, which was formed in 1980 as a wholly volunteer organization. Patricia Spradling was the first Executive Director followed by Kathryn Broderick, then Judith Wesley until her retirement in December of 1995. Lindy Blaesing was appointed the Interim Executive Director at that time and was appointed the Executive Director in April of 1996. Lindy Blaesing continued in that role until her retirement in June of 2018. Rhonda Franke was appointed the new Executive Director at that time although she has been with Mt. Hood Hospice since 1996.
Most of our staff have been with us for over ten years. We see ourselves as a family, and we support one another the same way we support our patients and families.

About Mt. Hood Hospice
Mt. Hood Hospice has been providing care and bereavement support to families in Multnomah and Clackamas Counties for 43 years. We are a not-for-profit, free standing, independent, community-based hospice.
Mt. Hood Hospice was the first free-standing hospice in Oregon to be granted Medicare certification in 1987. Since that time we have stayed current in compliance with changing CMS regulations while remaining true to our original ideal: to provide the highest quality care to families coping with life-limiting illness, emphasizing comfort, dignity and choice.
MT. HOOD HOSPICE CELEBRATES 43 YEARS!
We are a not-for-profit Hospice that provides quality care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones,
regardless of their ability to pay.
Living with a Terminal Illness
When a loved one is diagnosed with a terminal illness, the lives of those close to them are impacted as well. It's important to learn as much as you can about the illness. The more information you have, the more in control you will feel. Learn more.
What You Need to Know
Hospice care is covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance. You can choose your hospice! Every Medicare beneficiary with Part A entitlement has a Medicare Hospice Benefit allowing them services from ANY Medicare certified hospice. This is regardless of their enrollment in any HMO. We care for people in residential facilities as well as at home. Learn more.
